From Fen Drayton Pre-School
Fen Drayton Pre-School provides a safe, friendly and caring environment for children from 2 ½ to school age. We offer the children a varied and spacious play environment at Fen Drayton Village Hall which has the benefit of green outdoor space overlooking the playing field. Fen Drayton Pre-School is a small Pre-School for up to 16 children offering them the opportunity to develop and grow in a very supportive environment, ensuring they are confident and ready for school. Pre-School activities are structured around the national Early Years Foundation Framework and all children are regularly observed to ensure they are progressing. Staff at the Pre-School have had experience of working with children who have learning difficulties or disability and actively engage with professionals like Speech and language Therapists which has positive outcomes for children.
“Children's personal, social and emotional development is supported very well in this warm and caring pre-school. They arrive happy and enthusiastic. Children greet staff affectionately and quickly become involved in the activities." (Ofsted report 2014)

Fen Drayton Pre-School is a member of the Pre-School Learning Alliance and is also a registered charity. We opened in 1982, and have been established within the community for over 30 years. For over 20 years the Pre-School has been led by Diane Warboys, who is currently assisted by Anne Hodson, each of whom are qualified to NVQ level 3. The Pre-School is managed by an elected volunteer committee, all of whom are checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service. The Committee oversee the governance of the Pre-School, and do a lot of work to help organise our numerous fundraising events which enable us to ensure we remain financially viable. We have particularly close links with Fen Drayton School and actively seek opportunities to do events together which helps familiarise the Pre-School children with a school setting.
The Pre-School is currently open during terms times on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 9.15 to 12.15 and Friday 9.15-3.15.
In the Summer Tern after Easter, we offer an additional 'Rising 5's session on Wednesdays 12.15- 3.15 for children starting school the following Septermber.
Places are currently available for all sessions.
Fees are £10 per 3 hour session.
From the age of 3, all children are eligible for 15 free Pre-School hours during term time. This is claimed from the first term after their third birthday through the Pre-School whom collect the fees on your behalf. You are able to split your 15 free hours with one other setting if you wish.
Our most recent inspection was in January 2014.
We were graded a level 2 or ‘Good’ in the following areas:
- How well the early years provision meets the needs of the range of children who attend
- The contribution of the early years provision to the well-being of children.
We were graded overall as a level 3 or 'requires improvement', and also specifically in the area of
- The effectiveness of leadership and management of early years provision.
Please do take time to read the full report which reflects extremely positively on the environment we provide and the learning experience the children have at our Pre-School. Our Staff and Committee are very committed to responding to the areas of improvement highlighted in the report and are currently working closely with the Early Years Service at Cambridgeshire County Council to improve our practice where required. If you have any questions or concerns, please do contact Diane Warboys or our Committee Chairperson at the following email address: email@example.com
